My story

Hi, I’m Miki Mateo, the artist and illustrator behind Wander Letters. Growing up in the serene countryside of Japan, I found joy in exploring nature, playing tennis, and practicing piano—but my heart always belonged to art.

In 2017, a hand-lettering workshop sparked a creative journey that changed everything. I began combining watercolor with hand-lettered messages, creating heartfelt gifts for friends’ weddings and celebrations. What started as a hobby quickly blossomed into a passion for capturing meaningful moments through art.

As a mom to four wonderful children, life can often feel chaotic and overwhelming. In the midst of it all, art has become my meditation—it brings me serenity, focus, and balance. That sense of calm and creativity flows directly into my work, helping me create pieces that reflect the beauty and emotion of life’s most cherished moments.

Today, I specialize in custom portraits and live event art, blending creativity and elegance to turn life’s fleeting moments into timeless treasures.
